The tennis survey results are in!

The OKGN Tennis Association (OKTA) is incredibly humbled and honoured by the number of people in our community who took the time to answer our tennis survey.

As of Saturday, February 20, close to 800 respondents from Kelowna and the region have provided very valuable answers and feedback! OKTA will be using all of this information in its discussions with the City.

Our goal with this survey: Use the data to provide evidence to the city of the need for a year round tennis facility in our region.

We are sure you are just as curious as we were to have the results of the tennis survey so here are the most important and interesting findings!

Where do you play tennis?

Where do you play tennis?

The vast majority of players play at free and public courts in Kelowna and in the region, followed by the Mission Tennis Club, Global Fitness and Lakeview Heights in West Kelowna.

Some of the respondents who answered that they “do not play” expressed the wish for their children to have a place to learn and play tennis.

Why don’t you play in the winter?

These answers were the most revealing. The most common reasons for not playing tennis in the winter are the perception that there are no available options for playing and that the few options are of poor quality, too far and too expensive. About a third of all reasons have to do with the snow and cold weather; all factors that could be remedied with an indoor tennis facility!

30.4% per cent of respondents have said that they would be interested in playing in a winter tennis facility if the conditions were right.

What are the most important conditions for you?

Last but not least… let’s look at the support of the community for a year-round tennis facility!

Thank you!

The overwhelming majority of respondents support the goal of a year round tennis facility to be built in the Okanagan.

OKTA isn’t just about a year-round facility, though. It is about building the love and fostering the growth of this awesome sport, it’s about playing together as a community and providing our kids with opportunities for being active. Stay tuned for news about upcoming tournaments, leagues, coaches and camp information and much more!
