We can’t go anywhere, but we can play!

Unlike our tennis friends in Ontario who just saw all of their tennis clubs and courts close, we can still play so let’s take advantage of it since we can’t leave our health region.

There is so much information (and misinformation) going around regarding the current COVID-19 regulations with regards to tennis that we figured we’d explain them once and for all. We are using the most recent Tennis BC “Preventative and Protective Measures” document as our source.

Indoor Restrictions

  • Only single matches can be played. No doubles.

  • Private coaching only (1 coach and 1 student) but semiprivate lessons are allowed if the students are from the same household.

  • No events allowed.

Outdoor Restrictions

  • Group sport activities like training and drills are permitted for adults 22 and older for groups of 10 only if everyone can stay 6 feet apart, which is why Tennis BC is recommending a maximum of 4 adults + 1 coach per court.

  • Group coaching is allowed for juniors (21 and under) but again, only if there is adequate space for physical distancing by all students.

  • Parents, you can drop off your children for lessons a few minutes before the lesson begins and pick them up right after but you can’t stay to watch them.

  • No events allowed.

And as always, if you feel that you have to take extra measures to feel safe and comfortable: do so. We are all here to play and have fun so let’s enjoy it while we still can!
